Song of the Week: Ratatat - "Mirando"

When it's Ratatat vs. Predator, everybody wins.

Song of the Week: Looking Glass - "Brandy"

Feeling old school; so old school in fact that I would post the oldest video I've seen of a double kick. Look out for it!

Song of the Week: Swedish House Mafia & Laidback Luke feat. Deborah Cox - "Leave the World Behind"

I wish I was in Miami right now.

Song of the Week: Calvin Harris "Ready for the Weekend"

We did it, guys. We made it over the first hump day of the new semester. Now, let's just get ready for the weekend. If you like the song, you may like it even more after seeing this.

Song of the Week: Candy Claws "Catamaran"

I was going to put Candy Claws up on an artist watch, but with the post before already being one and "Catamaran" being such a cool, ethereal tune, I figured it would make for a pretty good song of the week as well.

Song of the Week: Butterfly Bones - "xoxo"

I've been looking for some summery, electro-pop all summer, but couldn't find any until Butterfly Bones rolled up on the scene. Pretty Feelings, their debut EP rolls out in the next couple days, so be sure to pre-order your own copy now. But for now, just sit back and enjoy this little tune.

Song of the Week: Minus the Bear - "Pachuca Sunrise"

Since it seems practically everyone is at the beach this week, here's a song that rests comfortably among the ranks of awesome, contemporary beach tunes. If you aren't at the beach, perhaps you should just close your eyes, listen to this and pretend you are. It'll make you feel better, I promise.

Song of the Week: Chris Brown "Forever"

I have to admit that I am an obligatory fan of Chris Brown because he is from my hometown. I know what he did to Rihanna was despicable, but I can't help but like him because I feel like we have some sort of connection due to our shared stomping grounds. Also, I think he may have just gained a little cred back because he made this wedding possible:

Song of the Week: Passion Pit - "The Reeling"

The lights, the colors, the music--need we say more?

Song of the Week: Ducktails - "Parasailing"

It's alright, just take a breath and relax. I know we've just passed the mid-summer point and you may be freaking out about getting ready for whatever the busy fall may bring (or, arguably worse, having a friend or acquaintance freaking out for/with you), but don't worry, I've got just the thing that will calm you down. Just let the waves of relaxing, electronic mellow wash over you with Ducktails' "Parasailing," and you should feel better.

If you like the track, you can snag yourself a copy over at RCRDLBL.

Song of the Week: The Go! Team - "Junior Kickstart"

I've had this song stuck in my head ever since I saw the trailer for I Got Next--a documentary about pro Street Fighter (and perhaps other fighting game) players--a couple days ago. I think it's a little odd that I now immediately associate "Junior Kickstart" with video games, but I think it's a good fit.
edit: I also just remembered that The Go! Team is also featured in LittleBigPlanet. The game associations just keep stacking.

BONUS: You may recall a little review I wrote for Oh.Bliv x Just Plain Ant's Black Soap a little while ago in which I expressed a feeling of emptiness associated with some tracks. Well, my friend Corey Smith (Score One for the Little Guy, Earthtone) must have gotten the message, as he just released a track where he raps over the beat of "Cuz I Need It" for his new single "It's Going Down."

Just for reference, here's the original track:

Song of the Week: MSTRKRFT ft. John Legend - "Heartbreaker"

I know we kind of gave MSTRKRFT a bum rap a couple months ago, but, to be honest, I've never really been satisfied with any of their albums. It's always a killer remix or collaboration that restores my faith in them. Here is one of those collaborations, and an awesome video to boot.

Song of the Week: Pony Pony Run Run "Hey You"

Since we are now officially a couple days into the season known as summer, I wanted to make sure that both the music and video for this song of the week were season appropriate. It seems like this little number from French outfit Pony Pony Run Run is more than suitable, don't you think? Actually, don't think; just sit back, relax and enjoy.

Song of the Week: AA Bondy - "Vice Rag"

AA Bondy grabs this week's song of the week because of his unique ability to write a nice folksy summer tune that has some of the most depressing lyrics I've ever heard. Oddly enough though, the song always makes me feel good, and hopefully it does the same for you.

Song of the Week: DJ Kaos - "Love the Nite Away" (Tiedye Mix)

It's summer. It's hot. Just try to find a cool place and relax to the calming vibes of Tiedye's re-work of DJ Kaos's "Love the Nite Away." It is truly necessary for only the most epic of lazy summer Sundays. Check the weird video below, and if you like the song, we even included a download link for you courtesy of pitchfork.com

Song of the Week: Tricky - "Christiansands"

This week's song of the week is another throwback, but this time to a man who is perhaps more well known for trying to impersonate Bruce Willis in the 1997 film The Fifth Element than any of his musical pursuits. This is unfortunate though, considering Tricky has done far more for the world of music than he ever did for film. Formerly of trip-hop contemporaries, Massive Attack, Tricky decided to go his own way with his half-speaking, half-singing style and haunting sound. It was only then that he started to gain international fame for his fusion of hip-hop and electronica.

This week's track, "Christiansands," is from his third album Pre-Millenium Tension which was featured in Q Magazine as one of the 50 Heaviest Albums of All Time. Enjoy the weight.

Song of the Week: Yeasayer - "2080"

If you have not yet heard of this uber-hip quartet from Brooklyn, we don't think we can be friends with you. With their debut, All Hours Cymbals, Yeasayer introduced the world to their yelping harmonies, jerky performance style, and "world" influenced indie-rock. Look for more heavenly goodness in their early 2010 sophomore release (and watch out for its review in the paper!)-- these guys might just be the next big thang.

SONG OF THE WEEK

Architecture in Helsinki - Heart it Races

The Australian-based, indie pop band, Architecture in Helsinki, snags this week's Song of the Week with a single off their third studio album, Places Like This. The reasons for this are many including the fact that they are veterans of Charlottesville's now-defunct Satellite Ballroom and the fact that I stumbled upon this neat remix by Spruce Lee and a kickin' cover by Dr. Dog over Easter weekend.

This tune and its reinvented counterparts should be able to tide you over until the quirky quintet (hopefully) comes back in town for another show.
